We are committed to the process
At Zou Zou Media House, we are fully committed to making the Bookmobile a lasting and impactful resource for the community. This is more than a bookstore—it’s a mobile literacy hub that brings diverse stories and small business products directly to the people. Read below to learn more about the mission.
A Library on Wheels? Here’s the Backstory and Why You’ll Love It!
Whether you're looking for books, a space to showcase your small business, or a dynamic community experience, the Zou Zou Media Bookmobile is here to serve the GTA and surrounding cities like never before.
Here are some frequently asked questions to help you understand its backstory, mission, and how you can get involved:
What inspired the creation of the Zou Zou Media House Bookmobile?
Founder Valene Campbell started her writing journey in 2020 when her daughter was just a few months old. While reviewing her daughter’s library, she realized that most of the books featured animals or characters that didn’t reflect her or her daughter’s identity. This sparked her mission to write diverse stories that celebrate Black culture and representation. As her books gained popularity in bookstores, libraries, and schools, she dreamed of taking this cultural, literary experience on the road—thus, the Bookmobile was born!
How is this Bookmobile different from a traditional library on wheels?
This isn’t just a travelling book collection—it’s a cultural hub, bookstore, and small business marketplace! The entire side of the vehicle folds down to create an expansive stage for cultural performances, storytelling, book signings, and vendor showcases. It’s a mobile platform for literacy, entrepreneurship, and cultural expression all-in-one.
Who does the Bookmobile serve?
The Bookmobile is designed to serve communities across the GTA and surrounding cities, including schools, neighbourhoods, festivals, and special events. It caters to children, families, educators, entrepreneurs, and book lovers of all backgrounds who are looking for diverse stories, cultural experiences, and a vibrant marketplace.
How will the Bookmobile impact the GTA and surrounding cities?
The Bookmobile will:
Increase access to diverse books and cultural storytelling.
Support small businesses by providing an affordable, mobile vendor market.
Create a platform for local artists and performers to showcase their talent.
Offer a new way for communities to engage with literature, entrepreneurship, and culture.
What kinds of books will be featured on the Bookmobile?
The Bookmobile will carry a variety of titles across multiple genres, ensuring there’s something for everyone—from children’s literature to young adult and adult fiction, self-help, memoirs, poetry, and more. However, there will be intentionality in highlighting diverse and inclusive narratives that reflect underrepresented voices, cultures, and experiences. Special consideration will be given to books that:
Celebrate Black culture, Caribbean influences, and African storytelling
Promote representation across different backgrounds and lived experiences
Encourage readers to explore new perspectives and embrace inclusivity
Can small businesses rent space on the Bookmobile?
Absolutely! The Bookmobile is designed to support small businesses by offering vendor spaces on-site. Entrepreneurs can showcase and sell their products at various stops, festivals, and community events. It’s an ideal platform for businesses struggling to find a brick-and-mortar location or seeking more exposure.
Can the Bookmobile be rented out for private events?
Yes! The Bookmobile is available for daily rentals for events such as:
Book signings
Pop-ups
Birthdays, weddings or other special occasions
School visits and cultural programming
Corporate events looking for a unique cultural and literary experience. To book, reach out to info@zouzoumedia.co.
How does the Bookmobile transform into a stage and vendor market?
One of its most innovative features is its expansive, fold-down side panel, which transforms into a large stage or extended retail space. This allows for:
Live storytelling, book readings, and author talks
Cultural performances and community discussions
Vendor booths where small businesses can showcase their products
Will the Bookmobile travel outside the GTA?
While its primary focus is on serving Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, and surrounding cities, there are plans to expand to other regions across Ontario and eventually beyond!
How can people stay updated on the Bookmobile’s schedule and upcoming stops?
